Celebrate the gift of freedom

July 9, 2019

I hope you had a wonderful holiday celebrating America's Birthday with a day off, family, friends, food and fireworks.

Independence Day in the United States commemorates the Declaration of Independence of the United States, on July 4, 1776. The Continental Congress declared that the thirteen American colonies were no longer subject to the monarch of Britain and were now united, free, and independent states. (Wikipedia)

Did you know on July 4th, Americans enjoy 150 million hot dogs, enough to stretch from D.C. to L.A. more than five times! Los Angeles residents consume more hot dogs on this holiday than any other city (about 31 million pounds), beating out New York and Philadelphia. Holy hot dogs batman! I don't eat them and I apologize for calling them mystery meat for those who do. They're obviously part of our American fabric!

Do you know Galatians 5:1? It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Freedom is a gift from Jesus through His finished work on the cross. Those who come to God by faith in Christ are free, forgiven by God, and adopted as His children into His family. This is not by any outward act or or good work we have put forth.  This means we don't have to earn our way to God or gain His approval. He asks us to stand firm, walk in His strength, and be unwavering against the curse of the law, legalistic sacraments and rituals.

Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

What is keeping you from experiencing the liberty, rest, and easy yoke Jesus offers?

Jesus wants to do life with you. He wants to help you carry the load so that so that you can walk in His freedom.

What do you need to take up and what do you need to put down?
